# Professor Bad Trip ![[PR-BADTRIP_01.jpg]] ## About Professor Bad Trip Laura Anzola and I created a live visual accompaniment for the Calgary Philharmonic’s performance of Fausto Romitelli’s 45-minute psychedelic, *Professor Bad Trip*. This work is an intense, multi-movement composition that immerses the listener in a vivid and disorienting auditory landscape, and we aimed to mirror this experience visually. Our visuals were inspired by the themes and imagery from Henri Michaux’s poems *Miserable Miracle* and *The Major Ordeals of the Mind and the Countless Minor Ones*, both of which explore altered states of consciousness, surreal visions, and the internal chaos of the mind under the influence of hallucinogens. We translated these abstract, hallucinatory concepts into a live visual narrative, blending movement, distortion and speculative biology to echo Romitelli's intricate sound textures and sonic experimentation. ![[PR-BADTRIP_02.jpg]] ## Performance History _March 03, 2023_ TheGrand Calgary, Canada ![[PR-BADTRIP_03.jpg]] ## Credits Video Content and Live Performance: Laura Anzola, Matthew Waddell Composer: Fausto Romitelli Conducted by: Karl Hizer **Calgary Philharmonic Musicians** Diana Cohen, violin Laurent Grillet-Kim, viola Arnold Choi, cello Jiajia Li, flute Slavko Popvic, clarinet Adam Zinatelli, trumpet Chris Sies, percussion Kodi Hutchinson, electric bass Darren Young, guitar Mark Limacher, piano ## Tags #Collaboration #Sound #Performance
